James Neiss/staff photographerLewiston, NY - Students, from left, Audrey Clark of Colden, Rory O'Connor of Kenmore, Jemone Carter and Chantelle Amorosi, both of Niagara Falls, attending a course in Twentieth Century Art offered through Niagara University’s Summer Academy, listen to Michael Beam, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions at the Castellani Art Museum, talk about an upcoming exhibition on the art of Salvador Dali. Marian Granfield, Director of Niagara University’s new Art History with Museum Studies program is teaching the summer course. “What’s so exciting and unique about this opportunity for students is that they just learned about Salvador Dali in the classroom last week and today they got to see his actual work being framed in preparation for the exhibition, “ said Granfield. “They also met with the Registrar and Preparator to learn about the various museum professions” she added. Students attending NU’s Summer Academy earn 3 – 6 college credits to get a jump on their college career. These classes are designed specifically for high school students who will be juniors and seniors in the fall of 2013 as well as for incoming NU freshmen. Included in Professor Granfield’s class are students from Niagara Falls High School who are participating in the Smart Scholars – Early College High School program.
