James Neiss/staff photographerTown of Niagara, NY - Cancer survivor Paula Yarger is 7 months pregnant. She and her husband James Yarger Jr. are excited about becoming parents and in the process, beating the odds against them. (EDITOR: Not sure I should say that about beating the odds before the birth. What do you think?)(Assignment Notes from reporter: Human interest story. As explained to me: "Around 30 years of age, my friend went to routine visit to dermatologist. She was fair skinned and this was normal. She found out she had skin cancer and it was treated. It came back and was in her lymph nodes she had to have many removed and was treated with chemo and radiation. She had just been married and inquired about freezing her eggs so that someday she may have a baby, they said it was too late. She was sick for a long time with a poor immune system and they had almost given up on having a baby. After 9 years of being cancer free, I am so happy to say she is PREGNANT!!! And I get to have lunch with her today and celebrate her son in the making. See, you thought I was trying to depress you, but it has a happy ending. Just a reminder, don't give up on your dreams and even in your darkest hour it can only get better — feeling happy.")
