Stryker the Harbor Seal to Predict WNY’s Winter Outlook
Third year of Aquarium of Niagara and NOCO’s Groundhog Day-take on winter
WHAT: In what has become an annual tradition, the Aquarium of Niagara and local full-service energy company NOCO are teaming up to make sure Western New Yorkers are prepared for winter. For the third year in a row, Stryker the harbor seal will again predict whether this winter season will be cold or frigid. Stryker has gone two-for-two in his weather predictions, with Western New York experiencing a milder, cold winter in 2020 and a frigid one last year.
Third graders from Harry F. Abate Elementary School – Niagara Falls City School District and City of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino will join representatives from NOCO and the Aquarium of Niagara to cheer Stryker on as he makes this year’s prediction. The students will then visit the Aquarium for additional STEM and weather-related enrichment activities.
WHEN: Friday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m.
WHERE: Aquarium of Niagara
701 Whirlpool St., Niagara Falls
Both Stryker the harbor seal and NOCO know a thing or two about winter in Western New York. Stryker and his rescued seal friends spend winters in their comfortable outdoor habitat at the Aquarium of Niagara where they naturally adapt to all kinds of extreme weather conditions. NOCO has been providing home heating services to the WNY community for nearly 90 years. In a Groundhog Day take on winter, they are partnering for the third year to determine what kind of winter we have ahead of us. Will this winter be cold or frigid and what can we do to prepare? Check in with Stryker to find out!
