Gerald Johnson, General Motors Executive Vice President, Global, announced that the Lockport location will soon be making parts for electric vehicles.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer joined General Motors leadership and local UAW workers in making a major announcement on the future of the General Motors Components Manufacturing Plant in Lockport, NY. General Motors will spend about $154 million to revamp its Lockport factory so it can make a key part for electric vehicle motors.
The automaker says it will add about 230 jobs at the factory to build stator modules, the part that creates a magnetic field to turn the motor. The part will go into motors for new electric trucks and SUVs.
