Lewiston-Porter Central School District to Host Full-Scale Active Shooter Training Exercise
We would like to invite members of the press to attend a full-scale emergency training and active shooter drill that will occur on February 15th, 2019 at Lewiston-Porter Central School District. The drill will start at 9:00am and we are asking any members of the press, who would like to attend, to be at the District Office, located at 4061 Creek Road, Youngstown, New York by no later than 8:30am.
This drill will be one of the first in New York State to utilize a full spectrum of emergency services and is being run with the help of the school’s transportation department, Niagara County Office of Fire Coordinator and Emergency Management, local police departments, the Border Patrol, fire departments and St. Mary’s Hospital. “We have staff members who will be made up at 7:30 am to reflect the wounds they have received,” says Dr. Grupka. “This exercise is intended to stress the system, to see how our district, St. Mary’s Hospital and local, state and federal emergency responders will react to a situation if an unfortunate circumstance occurs at any of our schools. Our primary focus is always on the safety and well- being of our students and staff. After the drills a debriefing will be held to help us focus on future trainings and corrective actions with our staff.”
The drill will begin at 9:00am at the Primary Education Center and run until 10:15am. The drill at the High School will start at 10:30am and run until noon.
*Please note that during the drill, access to the parking lots at the Primary Education Center and the High School will be unavailable. Members of the media should park at the Intermediate School or the Middle School parking lot. The co-coordinators will be available for media interviews from 7:30-8:30am and from noon to 1:00pm.
