We are proud to share with you that the student’s in my 2nd grade class raised $367.00 for Stone’s Buddies program at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital.
Why donate?
The discussion started with kids wondering what kids could do for others. Through these conversations, the idea of donating began and they only had to decide where and how to give. We searched Children’s Hospital website and founds lots of need.
Stone’s Buddies program provides chronically and life-threatening ill children a network of resources, support, and friendship. Stone Filipovich was a darling four year-old Lockport resident who spent most of his life fighting an aggressive brain tumor. He did succumb to his illnesses at four years old.
My students baked salt dough cutouts, painted/beaded and strung necklaces. In just one afternoon, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, we sold over 170 necklaces for $1.00 each at the Charles Upson carnival and fundraiser (additionally we sold about 165 more in three days during Charles Upson pride week, and we also received a $20 donation and gracious letter from an aunt of Stones who happened to see our flyer).
Alyssa Jerges, program coordinator of Stone’s Buddies from Children’s Hospital, is accepting the kids’ donation, Thursday, May 2, at 2:30pm. She is bringing the “big check” to accept their donation.
Thank you...
Barb Miles, 2nd grade teacher
