The marker is located next to the entrance of the Tuscarora Yacht Club, at 1 Shore Drive, in the village of Wilson. The creation of the marker was pursued by ninth grade student, Jesse Rodgers, who attends Wilson High School. Jesse was guided through the grant process by two of his teachers, Brett Sippel and Maureen Mahar, while a few members of the community helped him with his research, specifically Charles Horton, who once served as president of the Wilson Historical Society. The inscription that appears on the final marker was written by Jesse, and approved by the Foundation.Jesse will be present at the unveiling, to provide a brief description of Lake Island Park, for those in attendance. If you are interested in covering this event and would like more information, please contact Maureen Mahar, using the contact details above. It would be wonderful for Jesse to receive recognition in the local media for this great accomplishment, that will be enjoyed by his community and visitors for decades to come.
