Mayor Dyster Delivers 2019 Proposed Budget Address
On-Time Proposal Includes Tax Cut, Reduced Reliance on Casino Funds, Avoids Mass Layoffs
Niagara Falls, N.Y.- Mayor Paul A. Dyster appeared before the City Council today, to present a balanced, on-time, budget to the residents of Niagara Falls. Mayor Dyster’s proposed 2019 budget includes a $2.5 million reduction in the tax rate, avoids mass layoffs, tightens government operations and spending and increases shared service agreements with community partners.
Mayor Paul Dyster said, “Today I am proud to deliver an on-time and balanced budget that is drastically different than what we had potentially anticipated given the ongoing revenue dispute, thanks in large part to the actions of Governor Cuomo. However exciting, it is crucial at this important juncture that we take the steps necessary to ensure financial stability moving forward and do the right thing. I am confident that this budget, which avoids mass layoffs to public safety, and includes considerable savings and tax cuts, while still providing the day-to-day services residents deserve will put the City of Niagara Falls on the path to prosperity now and in the future.”
Council Chairman Andy Touma said, “First and foremost, we are grateful to Governor Cuomo for working with the City of Niagara Falls and its residents, yet we understand there is still much work to be done as part of the 2019 budget process. I am pleased that the Mayor has once again presented an on-time budget that avoids drastic cuts to our city workforce while reducing the tax rate. I look forward to reviewing the budget and collaborating with Mayor Dyster and my colleagues on the council as we continue our work toward the future success of our great city.”
Mayor Dyster’s 2019 budget address initiates the beginning of a full public review led by the City Council.
