A new, 68-ton, 15-foot wide and 9-foot high turbine runner that is being replaced will be on display. The multiyear plant modernization program allows NYPA to continue to provide low-cost power as well as power proceeds to businesses in Western New York and across the state that are tied to commitments to more than 400,000 jobs and nearly $33 million in capital investments that will positively impact the state’s economy. The modernization of the Lewiston Pump Generating Plant provides for the gradual replacement of the 12 turbine generators and other components, many of which date back to 1961 when the Niagara plant first went into service. The event will take place in the Lewiston plant’s Assembly Bay, an area of the plant that is off limits to the public.
