79th Street School gets new playground
Thanks to a State and Municipal Facilities (SAM) Capital Program Grant from Senator Robert Ortt's Office, the 450 children attending 79th Street Elementary School in the Falls will have a new and improved playground to enjoy.
The project, costing a bit under $160,000, entailed removal of the pre-existing playground and replacing it with new.
“The existing playground was out of date and needed extensive repairs. The entire playground and the play surface is all new, and built to be compliant with all safety and ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) requirements,” said Superintendent Mark Laurrie.
The new playground is brightly colored, replacing the browns, yellows, and greens of the former iteration.
A ribbon-cutting will be held June 2 at 1:45 p.m., when the whole school will join Sen. Ortt, District officials, parents, and neighbors at 551 79th Street.
