Falls evangelist to keynote Memorial’s
10th Annual Black History Celebration
A retired Niagara Falls police detective who is now a full-time Christian minister will be the keynote speaker Feb. 17 at the 10th Annual Black History Celebration at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, 621 Tenth St.
Evangelist Celestine Booze, co-pastor of Potter’s House Christian Community Church, will address the event’s theme: “One World, One Heart, One Home” during the 12 noon luncheon program.
The luncheon will be preceded by healthy heart screenings and interactive displays beginning at 10 a.m. and an 11 a.m. Heart Month presentation titled “Heart Choices, Not Hard Choices” by Dr. Talha Masood of Memorial’s Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency Program.
The luncheon celebration will include special community service recognition to Minister Lomax Barnes and Joanne Lorenzo.
Barnes is the director of Youth Motivational Movement, an early detection and behavioral correction venture that works with at risk children and their families to teach good decision making, non-violence and conflict resolution skills.
Lorenzo is the founder and director of the Magdalene Project, a ministry to the city’s homeless, especially women and children, through efforts such as an active street outreach, a soup kitchen and food pantry, and children’s programming including the popular summer “Kidz Club.”
Musical selections will be performed by students from Niagara Street Elementary School. A tribute to the late B.B. King will be rendered by Claude Kregg & Company.
