WHY: #GivingTuesday is in its sixth year, and encourages people to dedicate a day to giving back to others during the holiday season. This is in response to the consumerism that is so prevalent during the holidays, and particularly, the week following Thanksgiving in particular, thanks to “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday.”
This year, Community Missions has partnered with several organizations this year to meet needs:
· Niagara University’s Vincentian Scholars will arrive bright and early to prepare breakfast for those at the Mission, beginning at 6:30 a.m.
· Leadership Niagara will bring 100 high school students to the Mission to learn about servant leadership. Approximately 50 students will be in attendance on Nov. 28, with the remaining 50 visiting the following Tuesday, Dec. 5.
· Five local restaurants will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Mission. These include Rainforest Café, TGI Friday’s, Power City Eatery, The Village Bake Shoppe, and Third Street Retreat.
