Mayor Dyster Announces Phase III of City’s In-House Paving Project
Niagara Falls, N.Y. --- Mayor Paul Dyster announced eight streets as part of phase three of the city’s in-house paving project for the summer of 2016. Paving is set to begin next week along Krull Parkway between 82nd Street and Military Road, before moving onto additional streets throughout the LaSalle neighborhood. When completed, phase three will bring the total number of streets paved by city crews this season to 27.
Mayor Paul Dyster said, “We’re proud to announce this third round of streets as part of on-going efforts to address the infrastructure needs of the City of Niagara Falls. Despite record heat over the course of this summer, our crews worked diligently and under difficult conditions to get the job done, often times ahead of schedule. While there is more work to be done, our administration will continue to invest in taking a comprehensive approach toward the betterment of our city streets and our communities.”
“Our city crews are kicking off the third round of our in-house paving program right on schedule,” said John Caso, Director of Public Works. “As we wind down our paving program for the season, I want to commend our crews for their work despite difficult temperatures, and as always, our department will continue to focus on improving the quality of our city streets and infrastructure moving forward.”
The streets set to be paved as part of phase three are as follows:
· Krull Parwkay (82nd St. to Military Rd.)
· 85th Street (Frontier to Lindbergh)
· 80th Street (Niagara Falls Blvd. to Rick Manning Dr.)
· 75th Street (76th to Frontier)
· Edison Avenue (76th to 79th)
· 61st Street (Girard to Lindbergh)
· 62st Street (Girard to Lindbergh)
· Kies Street (56th t0 60th)
The city’s 2016 in-house paving project kicked off in May with 10 streets paved in under seven weeks. Crews are set to wrap up phase two, which included a total of nine streets with final paving work along 92nd Street today. This year’s in-house paving program represents over $2 million in infrastructure investment, including $1,163,735 in Casino funds, and $962,689 in Consolidated Highway Improvement Program Funds, or CHIPs.
Work is also underway as part of Phase II of the Buffalo Avenue Reconstruction project, which includes a stretch of Buffalo Avenue from 65th Street to the LaSalle Expressway off-ramp. Paid for through a combination of federal and state funding, the project includes pavement milling and overlay, new curb and driveway aprons between 68th and 86th Streets, sidewalk repairs, additional signage, shared use lanes and landscaping improvements. Phase II of the Buffalo Avenue Reconstruction project is expected to be complete by the end of October.
